He began his career in New York City and was one of the earliest design instructors at the School of Visual Arts. In 1960 he moved to London where he eventually formed Fletcher Forbes Gill, the design firm that later became Pentagram. He returned to freelance work in 1967 and moved his practice back to New York in 1975. In addition to his work as a print designer and illustrator, over the course of his career Gill also designed title credits, directed industrial films, created theatrical productions, and was the author of many children’s books as well as books aimed at designers. The Bob Gill Collection contains print work designed by Gill, plus some original art and production files.
