Biographical Note

Stephen Doyle is principal and creative director at Doyle Partners, a graphic design and advertising studio in New York City. Doyle studied at the Cooper Union under George Sadek, graduating in 1978, followed by stints as associate art director at Esquire and then Rolling Stone. In 1983, he joined M & Co., leaving after two years to start Drenttel Doyle Partners with William Drenttel and Tom Kluepfel, working with clients such as IBM and Champion Paper. After Drenttel left in 1997, Doyle continued under the name Doyle Partners. Doyle Partners is involved in graphic design and illustration, branding, identity systems, environmental graphics, packaging, and web design. Projects for notable clients include identity and marquee for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, branding and design for Tishman Speyer and Martha Stewart, identity and environmental design for Barnes and Noble, branding and wayfinding for the Cummins Distribution headquarters, and album art for the musician David Byrne. His book-page artworks, which he calls "hypertext sculptures," can be seen in the New York Times, the Atlantic, and on SVA subway posters from 2017.
